Basic Linux
(Knoppix)
Linux is the
fastest growing Computer Operating System in the world. Using
a free take-home CD that runs practically on any PC with
a built-in CD drive, find out why this system is so popular.
There will be no modication made to your Hard Drive, so it's
perfectly safe to use. Ideally however, it should be run on a
networked PC.
KNOPPIX
itself is a bootable Debian-based CD with a collection of GNU/Linux
software, automatic hardware detection, and support for many
graphics cards, sound cards, SCSI and USB devices and other peripherals.
KNOPPIX can be used as a Linux demo, as an educational CD, or
as a rescue system. Due to on-the-fly decompression, the CD can
have up to 2 GB of executable software installed on it. It is
a KDE release, with K Office and Konqueror WWW browser as standard
applications - it has Internet connection software, runs GIMP
(Photoshop equivalent) and Open Office (Microsoft compliant office
suite: Word, Power Point and Excel in Open Source format) - over
2000 executable user programs, utilities and games. All that
is required is to set the BIOS of your computer to boot off the
CD, or to create a boot disk (KNOPPIX/boot.img).
